In the heart of Moro Local Government, Kwara State, lies Omilende, a small community of 250 residents that once faced a dire lack of access to clean and safe water. Until 2017, the villagers relied on a single borehole that produced merely ten buckets of water every two days during the rainy season, alongside a spring water source shared by animals, vehicles, and humans. However, that reality was transformed thanks to the unwavering support of donors, members, and supporters of the Eagles Foundation for Humanity.
On January 14th, 2018, Eagles Foundation for Humanity took a giant leap in its mission to alleviate water scarcity by commissioning a new manual borehole for the community. The commissioning ceremony, led by Barrister Anifowoshe Titilope, CEO of the foundation, marked a moment of hope and renewed dignity for Omilende’s inhabitants.
This life-changing project, which cost ₦700,000, was a true testament to the power of collective humanity. Of this amount, ₦500,000 was crowdsourced from the public, with the remaining ₦200,000 generously donated by members of the foundation. The occasion was also marked by the distribution of 50 mosquito nets, clothing items, and even a smartphone, further reflecting the foundation’s commitment to comprehensive community upliftment.
Quoting Ban Ki-moon, “Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth… these are one and the same fight.” By addressing water scarcity in Omilende, the foundation has not only improved daily living conditions but also taken a step towards fostering public health, empowering women, and supporting economic growth. This project is more than a borehole; it is a symbol of partnership and hope. Together, we are building a future where basic amenities are not luxuries but rights.
